Blast rocks Greek public order minister’s office

ATHENS, Greece — Greek Public Order Minister Mihalis Chrisohoidis says a bomb attack inside his ministry has killed one of his close associates.

Officials said the bomb, disguised as a gift, exploded on the seventh floor of the ministry, near Chrisohoidis’ office, on Thursday night. The minister was inside the building at the time but he was not harmed.

Chrisohoides said Thursday that the “cowardly murderers will be brought to justice.” He says he “lost a valuable and beloved associate.”

ATHENS, Greece (AP) — A senior Public Order Ministry official says a bomb blast at the ministry has killed one person.

Police say the bomb had been hidden in a package disguised as a gift. It exploded on the seventh floor of the heavily guarded public order ministry, just outside central Athens Thursday night.

A police spokesman says Public Order Minister Michalis Chryssohoidis was in the building at the time of the blast but was not hurt.

The ministry official spoke on condition of anonymity because information on the casualty could not be released until next of kin was notified.
