Families carried remains of crash victim’s mother

GRANBURY, Texas — Family friends say five members of two Texas families who died in a New Mexico plane crash had been traveling to spread the ashes of one victim’s mothers.

The small Texas hometown of Granbury was mourning Friday, a day after the crash near Ruidoso (REE’-uh-DOH-soh), N.M.

Killed were Rodney and Delaine Duree (doo-REE’) and their 11-year-old son, Lake. Duree was chairman of Granbury’s Airport Advisory Board.

Also killed were middle school coach Karl Lowell Richey and his wife Keri Richey, who was an elementary school teacher.

Their two sons were injured. Sixteen-year-old Alexander Richey and 12-year-old Kristopher Richey are hospitalized in El Paso.

Witnesses told investigators the aircraft plunged while attempting to land Thursday at Sierra Blanca Regional Airport.
