BANGALORE - The Karnataka High Court Friday granted bail to self-styled godman Swami Nityananda, involved in an alleged sex scam, on several conditions.

He has to furnish a Rs.100,000 bond, give no public discourses, surrender his passport and report to the police once in a fortnight.

Nityananda, who has been behind bars for over 50 days, is facing several criminal charges including rape.

He is likely to be freed Monday from Ramanagara jail, about 40 km from here, according to jail authorities.

They said the high court verdict will be presented to Ramanagara magistrate who then will order the jail authorities to release him after he executes the bond and agrees to fulfill other conditions.

Nityananda, who has a sprawling ashram at Bidadi, about 30 km from Bangalore, was arrested from Himachal Pradesh April 21, more than a month-and-a-half after a TV channel telecast video footage showing him in a sexual act with a woman, believed to a Tamil film actress. Bidadi is in Ramanagara district.

Nityananda claimed the footage was morphed.
