2 people die in I-70 crash west of Denver

WHEAT RIDGE, Colo. — Two people are dead in a crash on Interstate 70 in Colorado, including a suspected drunken driver who was driving in the wrong direction.

The crash early Friday morning, west of Denver in Wheat Ridge, closed the highway during the morning commute.

Police say a black Nissan Sentra heading east in westbound lanes hit a Volvo head on. The 65-year-old driver of the Volvo got out of his car and was struck and killed by a passing semi-trailer. The truck also hit the Nissan, and the 26-year-old female driver was thrown from the car.

Three other people in the Volvo were hospitalized. The truck driver wasn’t injured.

The Nissan was seen earlier traveling erratically, and officers were searching for it when the crash happened.
