Police: 3 injured, covered in paint by truck blast

TYNGSBOROUGH, Mass. — Massachusetts State Police say aerosol paint inside a party supply truck exploded, injuring three people and covering them in paint.

State police say the driver stopped on U.S. Route 3 in Tyngsborough on Wednesday after passing motorists alerted him that smoke was coming from the back of the truck.

State police say that when the driver and two passengers opened the back door of the box truck, they inadvertently triggered an explosion. The three were covered in orange paint.

The driver and one passenger suffered serious injuries and were flown to Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston. The other passenger was taken to Southern New Hampshire Regional Hospital with minor injuries.

The victims’ names and conditions were not immediately released.

State police are investigating the accident.
