AMRITSAR - Two people were arrested with six kg of heroin near the international border in this Punjab district, police said Saturday.

According to police, an AK-47, live cartridges and magazines were also seized from them.

The accused were identified as Satnam Singh and Harjinder Singh, residents of Ramdas village.

“Acting on a tip-off, we laid a trap when the accused were coming to handover the contraband. They had smuggled the drugs from Pakistan a few days back,” said Manminder Singh, superintendent of police.

“They have links with many smugglers in Pakistan,” he added.

Amritsar is around 250 km from the state capital Chandigarh.
