Two children killed in cylinder blast

NEW DELHI - Two small children were burnt alive in a fire which broke out in a slum in northwest Delhi Tuesday after a cylinder exploded, police said.

Police said the accident was reported around 12 p.m. from BG Block in Shalimar Bagh slum area.

The children, identified as siblings - two-year-old Kajal and one-year-old Raju - died of burn injuries. They were rushed to Babu Jagjivan Ram Hospital where they were declared brought dead as they had received 90 percent burn injuries. The incident happened when a cylinder exploded in the slum area, said a police officer.

According to police, 65 to 70 huts were gutted in the fire that spread through the slum.

About 12 fire tenders were rushed to the spot and it took around four-five hours to douse the fire, said a fire brigade officer.

Jivesh, the father of the victims, has lived in the area for some years.

Both parents of the children were not in the hut during the fire accident.
