Two Pakistani smugglers killed on Punjab border

AMRITSAR - Two Pakistani smugglers were killed in a gun battle with Border Security Force (BSF) personnel Friday along the international border here, officials said. Counterfeit Indian currency with face value of Rs.65 lakh was recovered from them.

According to the BSF officials, the two were challenged while they were trying to sneak into the Indian territory through the fenced border at Noshera Dhala area here.

“We challenged them to surrender but they started firing at us. We retaliated and they were gunned down. We have seized fake currency of the face value Rs. 65 lakh from their possession, BSF’s Inspector General (Punjab range) Himmat Singh told reporters here.

He said the force has increased the vigil along the border.

The BSF guards 553-km fenced international border with Pakistan in Punjab.

Earlier, the BSF had recovered 26 kg of heroin and fake currency with the face value of Rs.18 lakh after gunning down a Pakistani smuggler, along the international border in Jalalabad district March 18.

Amritsar city is around 250 km from Chandigarh.
