NEW DELHI - A robbery bid at a financial firm was foiled and two people arrested here Saturday after a woman locked the building’s gates and collected a huge crowd outside, police said.

Three robbers jumped down from the third floor of the building in Keshavpuram area of northwest Delhi and managed to excape. Two robbers who did not jump were beaten up by the mob and later handed over to police.

“The robbers wanted to rob Muthoot financial firm located in Kanhai Nagar area. The firm has its office on the third floor of the building. Around 2 p.m. they entered the office. They threatened each person and asked them to hand over all the cash. Meanwhile, the guard of the firm alerted a woman who works in another firm in the same building,” said a senior police officer.

The officer said the guard asked the woman to inform the police but instead, she went down and locked the building gates and began shouting. Hearing her, a large crowd gathered at the spot.

Police reached the spot and arrested the two robbers who were still inside the firm’s office.
