STOCKHOLM - Passenger ships stuck in Baltic Sea ice off Sweden have been freed, an official said Friday.

The Amorella, with 753 passengers and 190 crewmembers on board, was released from the ice at the edge of an archipelago north of Stockholm.

The ship arrived at the Stockholm harbour Friday morning, said Johny Lindvall of the Swedish Maritime Administration.

The ship was on its way from Finland to Sweden when it stuck in the ice Thursday night, Xinhua reported.

The administration had sent three icebreakers to free the vessel.

Another large passenger vessel Isabella, carrying 1,322 passengers and crew, was freed from the ice early Thursday.

All other vessels that were stuck in the ice were freed by Friday morning, the administration said.

About 50 vessels were stuck in the Baltic sea ice off Sweden’s east coast since Wednesday evening.
