ALAPPUZHA - The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Wednesday arrested two people in connection with the murder of Muthoot scion Paul M. George.

According to CBI sources, they would be taken to the Ernakulam Chief Judicial Magistrate later in the day.

George was killed under suspicious circumstances near here Aug 21 last year while travelling in a car with Om Prakash and Rajesh, both of whom face several criminal charges.

The Kerala police had probed the case before handing it over to the CBI.

Nineteen people have been arrested for the murder, including Om Prakash and Rajesh. The two, who were arrested by the CBI, did not figure on Kerala police’s list.

A division bench of the Kerala High Court last month gave the nod for a CBI probe after M.G. George Muthoot, the victim’s father, approached the court Oct 30 last year.

CBI has been asked to complete the probe in six months.

The head of CBI office in Kerala S. Shyni, along with her deputy Nandakumaran Nair, led the probe in Alappuzha.

Last month, the CBI’s request to take into custody all the 19 accused arrested by the police was turned down by a court that told the bureau that it was free to question all of them.

The CBI, in less than a week’s time, completed a detailed questioning of all those arrested.
