KANPUR - A class 11 student shot his classmate at a school here Tuesday and escaped by scaling the boundary wall.

Amandeep, a student of K.R. Memorial School in Kanpur, around 90 km from state capital Lucknow, allegedly shot Vivek Singh when Vivek was about to enter a classroom, police said.

Vivek, who received bullet injuries in his stomach, is being treated at a hospital, where his condition is stated to be critical.

“Preliminary investigations reveal Amandeep had a tiff with Vivek Monday over some trivial dispute. There were heated arguments between the two, following which Amandeep threatened Vivek with dire consequences,” inspector H.L. Verma told reporters.

“We have learnt that Amandeep used his uncle’s licensed revolver in the attack. He hid the revolver in his school bag and brought it to the school.”

In order to ascertain the whereabouts of Amandeep, police have detained some of his family members.

“Even as the school staff rushed towards Amandeep to nab him, he managed to escape from the spot by firing in the air,” Verma said.
