12 killed in Brazil bus-truck collision

RIO DE JANEIRO - Twelve people, including nine students, were killed and 25 injured when a school bus collided head-on with a truck in western Brazil, officials said.

The accident occurred Monday on a bridge when the driver of the truck lost control of the vehicle and collided with the school bus coming from the opposite direction, Xinhua reported citing officials Tuesday.

The vehicles were travelling between Montividiu and Ipora municipalities in Goias state.

The drivers of the two vehicles and a student’s mother were among the dead. The injured were admitted to a hospital.

The mayor of Montividiu has declared a three-day official mourning.
