AMRITSAR - The anti-narcotics cell of Punjab police Thursday arrested two men and claimed to have seized 25 kg of heroin from their possession.

Police officials said the drugs were worth Rs.125 crore in the international market.

The men, Rajinder Singh, who hails from a border village here, and Baljit Singh of Delhi’s Hari Nagar, were arrested.

The recovery was made by the police following a tip-off that some smugglers were getting the drugs from the border area of Amritsar district and taking it to Delhi in a Tavera.

The vehicle was intercepted by the police at a barrier on the G.T. Road bypass on the outskirts of this city, 240 km from Chandigarh.

Punjab is a major transit and delivery point for high-end drugs like heroin and cocaine. Most of this comes from Afghanistan and Pakistan.
