Cop crushed to death in Delhi

NEW DELHI - A sub-inspector was killed and a constable critically injured when a car hit their motor-cycle in central Delhi Monday, police said. The driver has been arrested.

The incident took place near Baroda House at Tilak Marg area at around 12.45 p.m.

“Sub-inspector Hari Rama was killed and constable Ashwini Kumar was critically injured,” a senior police officer said.

The two were on duty when their bike was hit.

“Both were rushed to Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital, where Rama was declared brought dead,” the police officer said.

Ashwini Kumar received severe injuries and is undergoing treatment at the hospital.

Rama, 55, is survived by his wife and two sons.

The car driver, identified as Jaspreet Singh, 33, was apprehended from the spot. A case has been registered against him, the police officer said.

Jaspreet, a resident of Vikas Puri area of west Delhi, had earlier been booked twice for rash driving. In 2006, he was booked for rash and negligent driving in Rajouri Garden area and was booked for over-speeding last year, police said.
