BHADOHI - Rugs and carpets worth several lakhs of rupees were destroyed in this Uttar Pradesh town Saturday after a fire broke out in a manufacturing unit, police said.

The fire broke out in R.B. Sons’ Carpet on Mashal road that housed a manufacturing unit along with warehouse.

“The fire was massive and soon started spreading to nearby establishments. With several fire tenders pressed into service, the situation was brought under control after nearly two hours,” police inspector Ajai Kumar told reporters in Bhadohi, some 250 km from state capital Lucknow.

“Few labourers, who were trapped inside the unit, suffered minor injuries. No one has been seriously injured,” he added.

According to police, the initial financial loss in the fire is around Rs.20 lakh.

“The exact cause of the fire is yet to be established, but it appears it occurred due to an electrical short-circuit,” said Kumar.
