Drug peddler held with Rs.1 crore brown sugar

GORAKHPUR - An inter-state drug peddler has been arrested in this district with brown sugar worth over Rs.1 crore, police said Thursday.

Ramesh Singh, aged around 25 years, was nabbed late Wednesday from Gulriasahai area following a joint operation by the special operation group (SOG) and the district police.

“Acting on a tip-off, we nabbed the youth while he was on his way to hand over the drugs consignment to his clients,” Inspector Pradeep Singh told reporters here, some 300 km from Lucknow.

“Preliminary investigations indicate that Ramesh used to supply illegal drugs in Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Uttarakhand and NCR. We are gathering more details about the gang for which Ramesh used to work,” he added.

Ramesh Singh is a native of Uttar Pradesh and has been in the illegal trade for the last three years.
