Doctor suspended for hiding evidence in rape-murder of Dalit teen

LUCKNOW - A government doctor was suspended Thursday for hiding evidence in the autopsy of a 17-year-old Dalit girl who was allegedly raped and murdered. Four people have been arrested for the rape and murder, police said.

The girls body was recovered late Tuesday in Chinhat area and a post-mortem examination was conducted by doctor R.K. Saxena. Even as the autopsy report could not confirm the rape and the cause of murder, the girl was buried.

However, a police team inquiring into the matter Thursday got the body exhumed after they got suspicious about the autopsy report. A second post-mortem was conducted by a panel of three doctors.

The second autopsy report confirmed the rape and revealed that the girl was strangulated to death,” police inspector G.S. Tiwari told reporters here.

We today arrested four men in connection with the rape and murder of the girl. They abducted the girl Tuesday while she was returning from her sewing classes. Of the four, two raped her,” he added.

According to police, the four accused also include an uncle of the girl. All the four are in age group 25-30,” said a police official.

Chief Medical Officer A.K. Shukla said, The doctor, who is associated with the Balrampur Hospital here has been placed under suspension with immediate effect.”

Special Director General Police (Law and Order) Brij Lal told reporters here, A case would also be registered against the doctor for hiding evidence. Directives have already been issued in this regard.”
