Fire breaks out in power corporation office in Uttar Pradesh

LUCKNOW - A major fire broke out in a multi-storeyed government building housing the office of Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL) here Saturday, an official said. A man suffered minor injuries in the incident.

The fire erupted on the first floor of the Shakti Bhawan building along Ashok Marg in Hazratganj, the heart of Lucknow not far from the state legislature building.

“Within minutes the fire broke, it spread up to the fifth floor of the building after it came in contact with power cables,” Lucknow chief fire officer Rajendra Tiwari told IANS.

“With the timely intervention of our teams, we managed to rescue all the staffers of the power corporation who were trapped inside the building,” he said.

“We pressed eight fire tenders to douse the flames. The situation is completely under control,” he added.

According to officials, several important documents of the UPPCL were believed to have been gutted in the fire.
