AHMEDNAGAR - The body of senior Mumbai Police inspector Arun Borude, who was absconding for more than a month after being accused of raping a minor girl, was found in Ahmednagar district of Maharashtra Wednesday, police said here.

“Borude’s body was found near the railway tracks of Shrirampur late afternoon. It seems to be a case of suicide if we go by the initial investigation. We are, however, verifying the matter,” Additional Superintendent of Police (Shrirampur) Sunil Kadasne told IANS.

Ahmednagar district is about 250 km from Mumbai.

A former encounter specialist, Borude was absconding since more than a month. He was accused of raping a minor girl in suburban Andheri and was later sacked by the Director General of Police D. Sivanandan.

The rape incident came to light when the victim gave birth to a child in October this year.
