GHAZIABAD - A Kashmiri man who came here to take home his daughter studying in a college was killed Friday when a heavy chunk of steel slipped from a crane and crushed his car at the institute’s gates.

The tragedy took place around 4 p.m. at the Indraprastha Dental College, police said.

Abdul Mazid, 45, of Baramulla in Jammu and Kashmir reached the college to fetch his 21-year-old daughter Zarmina, a third year student of Bachelor of Dental Science.

Mazid, his wife and other family members reached Delhi from Kashmir Friday morning.

While the rest of the family waited at the airport lounge, Mazid and his 10-year-old daughter Ramana left for the college to return with Zarmina to take her to Baramulla for a vacation.

As his taxi reached the college gate, a huge steel strip roll suddenly fell off the crane, crushing both the vehicle — and Mazid, who was seated in the rear. Ramana and the car driver were injured.

We have seized the crane. The crane driver is absconding, Superintendent of Police A.K. Vijaita said.
