Soldier from Fort Riley Injured in a Hunting Accident

GEARY COUNTY (GaeaTimes.com) — On Thursday morning, at about 7a.m., Geary County authority received a call about a a hunting accident where a Fort Riley soldier was shot by a Manhattan resident. The victim was hunting elk near the area of Old 77 Highway and Range Road on the west side of the Fort Riley Military reservation and north of Junction City.

On reaching the scene, authorities found the soldier who suffered a single gunshot wound to the right leg. He was lucky to receive immediate first aid treatment from his fellow soldiers who were training nearby. The victim in Thursday’s hunting accident has been identified as Sgt. Seth Sullivan, 37.

The injured soldier was then transported to the Geary Community Hospital by ambulance and later he was sifted to Stormont Vail Regional Medical Center in Topeka. Late Thursday afternoon he was transferred to the University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City for further treatment.

The person who shot the soldier has been questioned by the authorities. It has been found that he was alone when the shot was fired and he was hunting legally. So, no criminal charges have been raised at this point of time.
