GHAZIABAD - A teenaged girl, handed over to a money lender by her father who failed to repay a loan of Rs.15,000, was rescued by police from Ghaziabad Sunday, an official said.

Sub-divisional magistrate Pushpa Devrar said: “Police have informed me that the girl has been rescued today (Sunday) evening. The police are looking into other aspects of the case such as her age and the other claims made by the money lender.”

The 14-year-old girl’s mother had filed a police complaint after her husband gave the teenager away Nov 15.

The girl’s mother, a resident of Goyna village, alleged police were apathetic to her complaint and did not rescue her daughter for almost a week.

The girl’s father, Dinesh, handed her over to money lender Pintoo, a resident of Hapur, after taking her out of home on the pretext of going to market, an official said.
