SHANGHAI - Four more people have been detained in connection with the blaze in a Shanghai high-rise that left 58 people dead, Xinhua reported Friday.

So far 12 people have been detained in connection with the case, police said. The managers of the firms involved in the building’s construction are among those detained.

Fifty-eight people were killed when a 28-storey building in downtown Shanghai caught fire Monday. Over 70 people were injured. It housed 156 families of retired school teachers.

The building, located at the intersection of the Jiaozhou and Yuyao roads, was being renovated when it caught fire at around 2 p.m.

The blaze was brought under control at 6.30 p.m. after more than 100 fire engines were put into service. Helicopters were sent to rescue people trapped on the roof.
