NEW DELHI - Two people, including a woman, were arrested for allegedly selling semi-automatic weapons and ammunition to criminals in Delhi and the National Capital Region, police said Friday.

Zainab Nisha, 20 who is pursuing Class 12 through open school, and Riyaz Mohammed, 42 were arrested Tuesday by the special cell of Delhi Police from Wazirabad area in north Delhi.

“Four semi-automatic pistols of .32 bore, hidden in separate cardboard boxes, were recovered from their possession,” said Additional Deputy Commissioner of police (Special Cell) Shibesh Singh.

Mohammed revealed that he acquired arms allegedly from his brother-in-law, who is also a member of this syndicate and brought the consignment to Delhi with the help of the woman, Singh said.

“Nisha, acting as marketing executive, used to look for prospective clients among the known criminals in Delhi and NCR. Once a buyer was identified, she would inform Mohammed and accompany him for safe delivery of the consignment,” Singh added.
