Village head among two killed by Maoists in Orissa

BHUBANESWAR - Two people including a “sarpanch” (village council head) were killed Monday by Maoists in Orissa’s Koraput district, police said. Another person sustained serious injuries.

A group of four Maoist rebels opened fire at local sarpanch Rabi Khera when he was driving a motorcycle with two others to attend a ceremony in a nearby village, a police officer told IANS.

Two people including Khera died on the spot. Another person sustained critical injuries, he said.

The incident took place around 4.40 p.m. near Kudumul village, some 660 km from state capital Bhubaneswar.
