Danish police: Blast suspect is Chechen

COPENHAGEN, Denmark — Danish police say they believe they have pinned down the identity of the one-legged man suspected of setting off a small explosion in a Copenhagen hotel.

Police spokesman Svend Foldager on Wednesday said he is believed to be a Chechen-born boxer who lives in Belgium. Foldager said Danish and Belgian police were cooperating to confirm his identity.

The suspect has declined to reveal his identity to investigators after his arrest Friday following a small explosion in a bathroom at a Copenhagen hotel.

No one was injured in the blast except the suspect, who received cuts to his face.

Investigators won’t say whether the explosion was terror related.

Danish media have speculated he was trying to assemble a letter bomb when it blew up in his face. Police have refused to comment.
