Family: Woman, 81, killed in Calif gas line blast

SAN BRUNO, Calif. — Family members say an 81-year-old woman was killed in a massive explosion that ripped through a San Francisco suburb when a gas line ruptured last week.

Frank Torres of Thornton, Colo., confirmed Monday that his grandmother, Elizabeth Torres, died in Thursday’s fire that consumed her San Bruno home.

He says his mother, aunt and uncle also were seriously hurt and remain hospitalized in San Francisco with burn injuries.

So far, authorities have confirmed four people dead in the blast. Another four remain missing.

The San Mateo County coroner has released the names of three of the fatalities but hasn’t confirmed that Torres was among them.
