Haryana constable tries to nab thief, loses life

PANCHKULA - A heroic attempt to nab a robber proved fatal for a young Haryana police constable here Tuesday as he lost his life in the process, police said.

According to the police, the deceased was identified as Suresh Kumar, 22. He had joined the service only one-and-a-half months back and was posted at Kalka town, some 20 km from here.

“Working on a tip off, a four-member police team from Kalka laid a trap here in Sector 5 to arrest three thieves. The team tried to stop the accused riding on a motor-bike,” said Haryana police spokesperson here.

“However, on seeing the police, the miscreants left their bike and started running in the opposite direction. Suresh chased them and caught one of them from behind. In the meantime, another accused stabbed Suresh in the chest with a knife,” he added.

Suresh was rushed to the civil hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

Police have arrested one of the accused, Monu, while the other two managed to escape.

The spokesperson said that a financial aid of Rs.10 lakh will be given to the family of the deceased.
