Trigger happy kabaddi fan lands in jail

ZIRAKPUR - As the Indian players showed exuberance against their traditional rivals Pakistan on the field in the World Cup Kabaddi finals, an Indian fan celebrated off it. And while the national side walked away with the trophy, the fan was sent to jail for firing in the air.

According to police, they arrested Jasvir Singh late Monday night after he fired three rounds in the air near Chhat village on the Zirakpur-Patiala highway, around 15 km from the state capital Chandigarh.

After hearing the gun shots local people who were sleeping outside their houses ran inside for security and informed the police.

“We reached the spot in time and after a brief search we arrested the accused. He was in an inebriated condition and he is a resident of Banur town. He works as a security guard at a housing society in Zirakpur,” said Yogi Raj, station house officer of Zirakpur.

He added: “During interrogation Jasvir informed us that after watching the India-Pakistan kabaddi match he consumed liquor to celebrate with friends. Thereafter to express his joy he started firing in the air.”

Police have also recovered the licensed point 32 bore revolver and some live cartridges from the accused.

India beat their arch rivals Pakistan in the final of the World Cup Kabaddi at Ludhiana Monday night and won a cash prize of Rs.1 crore.
