RIO DE JANEIRO - At least 50 people were killed in floods caused by heavy rains in Brazil, officials said Tuesday.

The floods, caused by heavy rains starting from Monday night, have paralysed the traffic in the capital city of Rio de Janeiro, where eight people were killed, Xinhua reported.

Airports and major railway stations were closed down and the state government has asked the residents to keep indoors.
