AMRITSAR - Nearly 20 kg of heroin, estimated to be worth Rs.100 crore in the international market, was seized Saturday from a mini truck near here by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), officials said.

Following a tip-off that a big consignment of drugs was being brought from the border area of Amritsar district for delivery, the DRI officials signalled the mini-truck to stop on the Ajnala road.

However, the driver sped away. The DRI officials gave chase but he abandoned the truck near a village and escaped.

On checking the truck, the DRI officials found a packet containing 20 kg heroin from under the driver’s seat.

The DRI and police are trying to nab the person who brought the consignment in the truck.
